The first day of the new year is almost over (for us in London at least). We had a nice New Year's Eve, we went to a party, which was a nice change from years past. I think it was the first time Dave was awake past midnight on New Year's Eve since...2008? Seriously. The start of 2013 was all the more pleasurable considering we woke up to SUN! It felt like the first sunny day in weeks, if not a month or more. 2012 was one of the wettest years on record for the UK and it felt like it too. So needless to say being greeted by the sun on January 1st felt nice. Doesn't the weather on the first day of the year work sort of like groundhog day? Since we woke up to sun doesn't that mean sun for the rest of 2013? That's what I am going to tell myself. (...until it rains tomorrow...)
Riley, nearly blinded by that strange thing called the sun.
Failing that I am going to blow the above picture up to 10'x15' and wallpaper our living room with it just so we have blue skies to look at. We didn't do too much today so I took advantage of our quiet day, and my overly caffeinated state, to clean. Nothing like starting a new year out with cleaning. Talk about boring. I took all the Christmas decorations down and put them away. Of course it helps to own about three ornaments. The mantel has been reclaimed by the year round decor, the candles are in cabinets and the stockings are stuffed in a bag. We took the tree downstairs and it is ready to be put curbside for garbage pickup. And just in time too. I worried a spark of static electricity from our laundry was going to set that thing ablaze. Now I am settling back and eating my dinner of expired Kraft Mac and Cheese brought back from a trip home. Considering it's expired, by a fair amount, I must have bought it two or three trips ago. Hopefully I don't wake up January 2nd with a case of the expired Mac and Cheesies. I figured I better eat it now before I start my 2013 health campaign tomorrow. No Mac and Cheese when that baby kicks into high gear. I also have resolutions to begin (or "suggestions" as I prefer to call them), my 2012 year in review to complete and a sewing machine to purchase (my Christmas gift from Dave). I have lots to do when 2013 officially opens for business tomorrow.
