Wanderlust, Or Alternatively, My List for 2012 and Beyond

I love to travel. Don't get me wrong, I love being home and once I get home after a trip I get very comfortable, very fast (comfortable couch, cute dog and reality TV anyone?). And of course I LOVE being with my doggie. I would never tell her I want to go travel, it would break her little heart. But, having said that, I tend to mentally compile a list of places I want to go next (or at some point. Eventually). This is that list. Dave has no idea about any of this, so he may have some completely different ideas of where he wants to go. Or he may just think I am crazy. Who knows?

We are fortunate in that we have done a fair amount of traveling in Europe, even before we moved to London. Since moving here we have done quite a bit more and therefore, while there are many places I still want to see, I also would really love to branch out and hit some other spots. We love Asia, and have really enjoyed traveling there in the past five or so years, so I would love to do more. But here is my list so far. And trust me, I view this as a lifetime list, or at least one covering the next 5-10 years. I am not expecting Dave to agree to all of these in 2012!

Europe:
Croatia
I want to go to a beach area like Sardinia or Corsica
Hiking in the Swiss Alps - we almost planned such a trip in 2011, but Dave told me we need more training first. I told him I just need a CamelBak and I'm good to go.
Saint Petersburg - we have to go to Russia don't we? I'm so curious about it. Maybe Moscow? I would love to see Red Square. But the visas fees are steep so maybe not?
Scottish highlands - I think I romanticize its beauty and ruggedness and I want to find out if my mental image is accurate.
Edinburgh - I still remember a really animated accordion player from my first trip to Edinburgh when I was about 8. Maybe he's still around, playing and furiously winking with his arms all akimbo.
More UK day trips on the weekends we stay in London.

Etc:
Sri Lanka - I think this is #1 on my list. I really, really want to go, I hear amazing things about it, especially the Tea Trails.
Cambodia - Angkor Wat before it is even more overrun than it already is.
Vietnam
Laos
Petra and the Dead Sea - a close second to Sri Lanka
Oman - I recently read about someone describing it as the most beautiful country on earth. Really? I'm curious...
Beirut
The Pyramids
South Africa
Safari - somewhere, not sure where so I'll say "safari" generally, but that could be South Africa obviously.
Maldives - OK, this is a wishful thinking one, so I'll just put it on for sh*ts and giggles. (I mean they are all wishful thinking trips, but the Maldives is really wishful)
India - I really want to go from here since it's so much closer than going from the US. I think we have to go...

So you can see my list is quite long. Poor Dave, he's stuck with an avid traveler. Luckily he likes to travel also, but his plans for future travel may not be as grandiose as mine. For all I know he wants to spend a week in Fargo, ND. I suppose we should compare lists one of these days. Now, sigh, back to the dreaming...

  1. Laos is amazing - you have to visit Luang Prabang. We did Thailand, Laos and Cambodia about 1.5 years ago and it was an incredible trip! You should add South America to your list as well :)
