Two California transplants, one Wheaten Terrier and their sort-of new life in London

I am so late to the game

Yes, I am just now starting a blog. Almost 2 years after moving to London. Well, 2 years come June. Why now? Why not I guess. I like to think I have (moderately) interesting things to say. My husband may disagree... And hey, if only he and my Mom end up reading this, then I am a more popular author than I was before I started the blog.

So, to tell you something about me, I moved here in June of 2009 after finishing law school. My husband moved here the summer before (in 2008) for a new job. We did the living apart thing for about 10 months (I kept the dog so I was good) and after graduation I finally made it over to London, marriage intact. In the past 20 months since I moved we have traveled, explored London, tried restaurants, had some visitors (not enough, hint hint) and generally started living life normally in a new city, in a new country, on a new continent.

Basically this blog will roughly chronicle our lives here. We love to travel, and I love to eat. So hopefully this will become a life, lifestyle, travel, eating, food blog. A lifestyveleatood blog. And why the name? Well I wasn't going to use Lifestyveleatood. First of all I like to think of myself as fairly clever, but I am not very good at catchy names or titles (except for the title of my upcoming book about orange peels, contact me if interested in publishing it). So there was no way I was coming up with some catchy blog name. I also vetoed some of the obvious ones like Riley Does London (pornographic, not to mention a dose of nasty considering Riley is a dog), Laurie Does London (also pornographic, not cool). I could have gone cute - Laurie Loves Life in London (alliteration, fun!) but, ick, no. When it comes down to it, the Life of Riley is fitting. Our dog has a damn good life. She gets walked 3 times a week by a walker she loves more than us (pity party, hey!), she gets way too many treats, is way too spoiled and uses her looks to her advantage. Yes, she knows exactly how cute she is. She lives her life to the fullest on our dime - she lives the life of Riley. I figured why not name the blog after her, and the notion of living well.

So that's it for now. I am really hoping to keep this blogging thing up. In the future I plan on posting about our past trips, and of course our current travel (although not much coming up until April. Dave?) I'll also try to show you more about our 'hood, London, Riley (she's the cute one after all), food, maybe more food, and whatever else comes my way. Enjoy Mom and Dave! And anyone else who happens to come this way.
